Welcome To The Division Of Primary And Preventive Care
Welcome to the Division of Primary and Preventive Care, where we strive to further the vision of the UTRGV School of Medicine in transforming the health of the Rio Grande Valley, and beyond, through all 5 mission pillars: innovative education, life-changing research and discoveries, high quality patient-centered care, service to our community, and sustainability and a culture of entrepreneurship.
Our division supports undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, and the continuing medical education spectrum in training physicians and allied healthcare providers in primary care. We have the family medicine clerkship, multiple electives and sub-internships, family medicine residency training, outpatient internal medicine residency training, primary care, behavioral health training for mental health learners, and other education opportunities.
Our faculty, residents and students participate in research particularly in underrepresented populations and health education research.
We are committed to increasing access to high quality patient-centered care, including integrated behavioral health, family medicine, outpatient internal medicine, and serve patients throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
From participation in the Area Health Education Centers, to community talks and volunteering within the community, service to our community is why we are here.
We know that access to high quality primary care reduces mortality, reduces cost, and reduces health disparities. We are engaging in team-based care and value-based care to ensure sustainability of our clinical practice.
We thank you for your interest in our division. Whether you are a medical student, a community member, a local physician, faculty, staff, researcher, or other, we would be happy to connect with you on any of the above missions and opportunities.
