Welcome To The Division Of Primary And Preventive Care
Our division advances the vision of UTRGV School of Medicine to transform the health of the Rio Grande Valley—and beyond—through all five mission pillars: innovative education, impactful research, high-quality patient-centered care, community service, and sustainability with a culture of entrepreneurship.
We support undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education in primary care. Our programs include the family medicine clerkship, multiple electives and sub-internships, family medicine and outpatient internal medicine residency training, behavioral health training, and more.
Our faculty, residents, and students engage in research focused on underrepresented populations and health education innovations. The integrated behavioral health team plays a critical role in both patient care and community-based research.
Clinically, we are committed to increasing access to high-quality, patient-centered care—including integrated behavioral health, family medicine, and outpatient internal medicine—across the region. Service to our community is central to our mission, from participation in the Area Health Education Centers to community talks and volunteer efforts. We know that access to primary care reduces mortality, lowers costs, and addresses health disparities.
We welcome your interest in our division. Whether you are a medical student, community member, local physician, faculty, staff, or researcher, we would be happy to connect with you and explore ways to engage with our mission.
