Welcome to the Division of Population Health
The Division of Population Health works with clinical, research, and community partners to translate new discoveries into clinical and preventive practice in the Rio Grande Valley population with the goal of improving the overall health of this U.S. – Mexico border region.
The Division of Population Health is dedicated to the study of social determinants of health with a special focus on the unique and understudied population of the Rio Grande Valley, a region known for its exceptional natural beauty and rich binational heritage, but also for the disproportionate impact of diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and certain cancers on its population.
The Division expands on existing research and conducts new studies on population health, utilizing powerful biostatistical and epidemiological methods to make new discoveries. Through the study of social determinants, we aim to understand the underlying factors influencing health disparities and develop methods to address them. We are steadfast in our commitment to improving the overall health and quality of life of the people living in this rich and vibrant binational community and beyond.
