Office of Technology Commercialization
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) assists employees of UTRGV in enabling industrial research partnerships, intellectual property (IP) protection and management, proof-of-concept development, new venture incubation, and entrepreneurship training. OTC’s goal is to transfer intellectual property owned by UTRGV to society as new and useful products.
What We Do
- Ensure compliance and data reporting for federally-funded research to UT System, professional associations, and industry.
- Provide training for faculty, students, and community related to UTRGV IP policy and processes, compliance requirements, patent and copyright law, and license strategies.
- Process UTRGV invention and software disclosures through evaluation, patenting, copyright registration, marketing, and licensing as appropriate.
- Process certain agreements related to IP: options, inter-institutional, and royalty-sharing.
- Ensure compliance with terms of UTRGV patent/software license agreements.
- Provide information to UTRGV employees who want to start up businesses based on UTRGV inventions or software.
- Market UTRGV-owned technologies to industry.
- Represent UTRGV at Texas Venture Connect
