All University support services, including those provided through The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Podiatric Medicine (SOPM), are accessible in person, via email, chat, or online.  

Student Rights and Responsibilities 

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) guides and supports students in addressing a broad spectrum of issues that may act as barriers to their success. Using a student-centered lens, the members of the SRR team will: 

  • Act with honesty, integrity, and respect toward all individuals who seek assistance or services. 
  • Promote and support a community atmosphere conducive to academic success. 
  • Uphold the University’s expectations via the Student Code of Conduct by conducting impartial interventions, investigations, and adjudications to assist students in reaching their academic and personal goals.  
  • Respond promptly to all complaints and seek equitable resolutions. 
  • Provide resources, education, and support that will proactively reduce risks to all members of the campus community. 
  • Actively promote student rights.

Student Accessibility Services 

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) includes evaluating disability documentation, arranging academic accommodations, and providing consultation to students with disabilities, including those with temporary disabilities (e.g., mobility limitations and transient but severe illnesses).  

SAS offers accommodations such as:  

  • Extended time on tests 
  • Distraction-reduced testing environment 
  • Alternate format textbooks and class materials 
  • Sign language interpreting 
  • Volunteer note-taker services 
  • Assistive technology 
  • Accessible furniture 
  • Referrals to campus and community resources

Military and Veterans Success Center 

The center assists students in certifying education benefits, advocating for services, developing projects to unite the University with our local community, providing counseling services specifically for veterans, and promoting student involvement through the Student Veterans of America National Organization. The center is there to assist those who have served our country and are committed to helping military students and their military families start or continue their education. Their goal at UTRGV is to provide an academically challenging environment to help you succeed in the next phase of your professional life.

Dean of Students 

The role of the Dean of Students is to provide care and support to students by ensuring that issues are properly addressed and to facilitate opportunities that help meet their academic and personal goals. The office is a resource connecting students who are navigating personal or academic issues to supportive campus and community resources, serving as student advocates, and promoting students’ rights and responsibilities. The Dean of Students is responsible for several units and programs that make up student life at UTRGV, which include Student Accessibility Services; the Student Food Pantry; the Center for Student Involvement; Student Media; Student Rights and Responsibilities, and provides support for students formerly in foster care.
