Why UTRGV?
I remember being in high school and visiting multiple universities during field trips, but UTRGV stood out to me. The warm welcome we received and the vibrant, joyful atmosphere made me feel like this was a place I could belong. I was amazed by the opportunities UTRGV offered, from academic resources to community involvement, and it was clear that this was a university that truly invests in its students’ futures. I knew then that I wanted to be a part of the UTRGV family.
What made you decide on your current major?
Since middle school, I’ve always known I wanted to pursue something in business. When I took my first marketing class, it just clicked. I fell in love with the creativity involved in social media, digital marketing, branding, and even luxury marketing. The way marketing blends strategy with innovation opened my eyes to how powerful it can be, and I knew that this was the field where I could thrive and make an impact.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
As a co-founder of Sierra Building Company, I’m honing my marketing skills. My goal is to create an innovative marketing agency that sets trends and redefines storytelling. I aim to merge creativity with data-driven strategies to deliver transformative results. I’m also passionate about supporting first-generation students through scholarships, providing them with the same opportunities I’ve had. After my BBA, I plan to pursue a master’s in Accounting to further enhance my skills and leadership abilities.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I love most about UTRGV are the opportunities it provides to students. From hands-on experiences to studying abroad, UTRGV opens doors that help turn dreams into reality. The support from faculty like Michael Flores, Deidra Johnson, and Linda Acevedo has left a lasting impact on me—they’ve inspired me to grow both personally and professionally. The chance to study in Switzerland gave me a global perspective, allowing me to see business from a whole new angle. UTRGV has truly empowered me to become the best version of myself.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means embracing a spirit of unity, passion, and excellence. It’s about wearing our colors with pride, knowing we are part of a community that drives each other to succeed. To me, being a Vaquero is about embodying resilience and professionalism and carrying the values of UTRGV into every aspect of life, both academically and beyond.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has given me endless opportunities for personal and professional growth. My course in Montreux, Switzerland, expanded my network and gave me the chance to understand a different culture firsthand. I’ve also made lifelong friendships and built strong relationships with faculty and peers that have shaped who I am today. These experiences have not only helped me grow but have also solidified my career goals, making me more passionate about the path I’m on.
