Why UTRGV?
I originally attended Texas A&M University but decided to transfer to UTRGV to stay closer to my family. It turned out to be one of the best choices I’ve made. UTRGV offers a unique blend of academic excellence and a close-knit community atmosphere that I didn’t find at other universities. Being close to my family while still receiving a top-notch education has been invaluable, allowing me to effectively balance my academic and personal life.
What made you decide on your current major?
I have always enjoyed working with technology and computers, which naturally led me to choose a major in Information Systems. I love to problem-solve and optimize every detail possible, and the fascination with how technology can be leveraged to solve complex problems and improve efficiency in various industries has been a driving force behind my decision. Information Systems combines my interest in technology with practical applications in business and other fields, making it the perfect fit for me. I am excited about the possibilities of using technology to create innovative solutions that can make a real difference in the world.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I have a lot of dreams for my career and many different interests, so I’m not sure where I’ll land in the future, but I would like to leave an impact on this world and make people's lives better in some way. Beyond completing my major in Information Systems, I hope to find a career that allows me to utilize my skills and passions to drive positive change. Whether it’s through developing new technologies that enhance daily life, improving data analysis to drive better decision-making, or optimizing business processes to increase efficiency, my goal is to contribute meaningfully to society.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
I’ve really enjoyed my experiences with the faculty here at UTRGV. The professors are not only knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in their students' success, providing guidance and encouragement every step of the way. The professors here truly care about their students, going above and beyond to ensure we have the resources and support needed to succeed. Their dedication to teaching and mentoring creates a nurturing environment that fosters both academic and personal development.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
As a Vaquero, I am proud to be part of a close-knit community where students, faculty, and staff support each other and work together to achieve success. The sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among Vaqueros fosters a positive and inclusive environment that encourages growth and development.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Here at UTRGV, I’ve joined the Association of Technology Professionals as their latest president where I’ve gotten invaluable leadership experience. Additionally, I got the opportunity to work on a two-semester-long research project where I was mentored by professor Michael Flores in the Vackar’s Scholars program.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and reach out to your professors for help. They are incredible resources and want to see you succeed. Then most importantly, don’t worry too much when things don’t go the way you planned. The most important thing is to make the most out of what you are given.
