Why UTRGV?
I initially chose UTRGV for its practicality, allowing me to pursue higher education while staying close to home. However, as I delved into my studies, I discovered that UTRGV offered much more—diverse perspectives, a strong sense of community, and hands-on learning opportunities. The faculty not only shared their expertise but also took a personal interest in my growth. It became a place where I could challenge myself and explore my passions, especially in areas like business intelligence and data mining.

What made you decide on your current major?
I took a course with the program director during my undergraduate studies, and I fell in love with the work so much that I had to return for my master's. During my undergraduate studies and internships, I realized that data-driven decision-making is key to success in every industry. I was fascinated by how businesses use data to understand customer behavior, optimize operations, and predict future trends.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I hope to break the generational wealth barrier in my family. I want to use the skills I've gained to create financial opportunities and stability, not only for myself but for future generations. My goal is to build a legacy that redefines what's possible for those who come after me.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like most about UTRGV is the combination of opportunities and support it offers. The campus fosters a strong sense of community, and the professors are genuinely invested in student success, both academically and personally. The diverse range of classes and hands-on learning experiences have allowed me to explore my interests in data analytics and business intelligence.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means embodying resilience, hard work, and a deep connection to the community. It’s about taking pride in my roots and embracing the opportunity to grow both academically and personally. As a UTRGV student, I feel proud to be part of a diverse and inclusive environment that values perseverance and the pursuit of excellence.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV provided me with opportunities to give back to my community and grow professionally. As part of a student organization, I participated in several initiatives that focused on community service, allowing me to contribute to local causes and build meaningful connections. Additionally, UTRGV helped me secure an internship that led to a full-time job at EY. This experience not only sharpened my skills but also showed me how much of an impact I can make in both my career and my community.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice for fellow students pursuing their degrees is to stay curious and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone—whether it’s joining student organizations, seeking internships, or networking with professors and professionals. These experiences will help you grow in ways you might not expect. Lastly, surround yourself with a supportive community and never hesitate to ask for help or guidance. Your journey is unique, so embrace it fully.
