The "read and green" agreement with the University of Texas System provides UTRGV authors the ability to publish articles in an ACS hybrid journal with the option to deposit their accepted manuscript into a repository (e.g. ScholarWorks @ UTRGV) with no embargo and their choice of one of the following Creative Commons license:
- CC BY — Permits the broadest form of re-use including for commercial purposes, provided that author attribution and integrity are maintained.
- CC BY-NC-ND — Permits non-commercial access & re-use, provided that author attribution and integrity are maintained; but does not permit creation of adaptations or other derivative works.
Authors will retain copyright of the accepted manuscript, and there is no fee to authors to participate in this program. Authors will need to opt-in by selecting the option to retain copyright and be allowed to deposit their manuscript when completing their "Journal Publishing Agreement".
In addition, UTRGV corresponding authors qualify for a reduced APC when publishing the version of record as gold open access in ACS hybrid journals. The reduced fees are as follows:
- CC BY license: $2,000
- CC BY-NC-ND license: $1,500
