Media Materials
Currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and staff are eligible to borrow media materials, such as DVDs, CDs, and kits. These items can be borrowed and requested in Brownsville and Edinburg. Students may check out media materials for 3 days. Faculty and staff may check out media materials for 3 days as well.
Media Equipment Guidelines
Currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and staff are eligible to borrow media materials and equipment. The University Library offers laptop computers, camcorders, audio recorders and other media-related equipment for checkout.
Library media materials and devices may be checked out according to the following loan rules:
- All borrowers must present their current UTRGV photo identification at the time of checkout.
- The borrower's library account must be active and clear of fines and overdue materials.
- Borrowers are responsible for all materials, equipment, and accessories checked out on their library account.
- To ensure proper handling of items please return all media materials and equipment in person, allowing at least one hour before the library closes.
- Media materials and available equipment are limited and are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis.
- All media and equipment must be returned before the end of the loan period. Failure to do so will result in:
- Late fees for overdue materials.
- A hold placed on the user's library account, preventing circulation of all library materials.
- UTRGV credentials are required for login and use of laptops and tablets.

Media Device Borrowing Terms:
By checking out media equipment, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms of use with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Library:
- You are responsible for returning all media equipment and its components in good working order before the due date and time.
- There is no grace period for returning media equipment. Overdue fines are charged immediately for any portion of an hour overdue.
- Media equipment borrowing ends one hour before the library closes.
- You are responsible for the cost of replacement or repair for any media equipment that is lost, stolen, or returned damaged. The maximum fees are $1,000 for laptops and tablets or $2,000 for projectors. Library Administration will determine the extent of damage to any item.
- Unpaid fines and fees may result in the immediate suspension of library privileges, and a hold may be placed on your academic record.
ILL and TexShare
Interlibrary Loan and TexShare patrons are not eligible to borrow media materials and devices with the exception of books with supplementary CDs.
Third-party checkouts
If a faculty or staff member wishes to send a student or staff worker to check out media on their behalf, then their representative must present the following:
- The faculty member's UTRGV ID.
- A note on a departmental letterhead signed by the faculty or staff member granting permission for the representative to check out on their behalf.
Media Equipment Available for Checkout
- All media and equipment must be returned before the end of the loan period. Failure to do so will result in:
- Late fees for overdue materials.
- Overdue fines are $1.00 per day
- Maximum overdue fine is $25.00
- A hold placed on the user's library account, preventing circulation of all library materials.
- UTRGV credentials are required for login and use of laptops and tablets.

Computer Labs
Computer Lab Guidelines
- Computers are available for student use on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Active students can log in with their UTRGV credentials.
- If software needed for course is not available in any computer station, please let us know. We'll inquire to see if it's available for installation. Please note that installation is not immediate.

- The computer labs are on the second and third floor of the library.
