About the UTRGV Family Study Room

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Family Study Room is located on the second floor of the library. The goal of the Family Study Room is to provide parenting students, faculty, and staff with a comfortable place to work while supporting their familial responsibilities. This shared space can accommodate up to 18 adults and 13 kids at a time, offering a welcoming and safe environment for parents to study and complete projects while keeping an eye on their children. It is important for students to follow all library rules and policies. Failure to comply may lose privileges.

  • 1 pack n play and kid-sized furniture are available.
  • One computer and printer are provided for parents’ use.
  • The room is equipped with kid-friendly books and toys to keep children entertained.
  • The room is not soundproof, and the space permits reasonable noise. Please keep noise at a minimal level.
  • No disruptive behavior will be tolerated. Families who do not comply may be asked to leave.
  • Students, faculty, and staff not accompanied by children may be asked to leave.

  • Only UTRGV students, faculty, and staff with children are eligible to use the room.
  • To reserve the room, please check in with the 1st floor circulation desk to check out the room key. Reservations will be for 4 hours. If more time is needed, please renew the reservation with the 1st floor circulation desk.
  • Renewals are allowed if no other reservations are pending.
  • An adult must be present at all times; children must not be left unattended. If an unsupervised child comes to the attention of library personnel, UTRGV Police will be contacted.
  • Toys, books, and other items are for in-room play only and must remain in the space for future visitors to enjoy.
  • No outside toys allowed!

  • Keys must be checked out from the 1st floor Library Service Desk.
  • A child must be present at the time of key checkout.
  • A billing fee will be charged for any unreturned, lost, or damaged keys or items. In addition to this fee, you will be responsible for the cost of replacing the damaged or lost item, as well as an additional inconvenience fee of $5.

  • Technology toys and educational materials can be checked out at the front desk. Users are responsible for any loss or damage to the checked-out items.
  • A baby bottle warmer can be borrowed at the front desk.

  • Users must clean up after themselves and their family members, including re-shelving toys and books and returning furniture to its original location.
  • Dispose of all trash in designated trash cans, wipe tabletops, and alert library staff promptly if something is amiss. Disinfectant wipes are available on the bookshelf.
  • Do not rearrange the room layout by moving furniture in or out of the study rooms.
  • Do not leave any personal items in the room. Personal items will be sent to campus lost and found.
  • Vacate study rooms 30 minutes before the library closes.

  • The lights must remain on at all times.
  • Do not leave personal items unattended; you are responsible for your belongings.
  • Report any issues to library staff immediately.
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and procedures. In case of an emergency, follow the library’s evacuation plan and instructions from staff.
  • Contact Campus Police at (956) 882-4911 or 911 for emergencies.
  • UTRGV Library Staff are not responsible for any accidents or any injuries in the study room.

  • Changing Tables: Available in the library’s first-floor men’s and women’s restrooms. Please do not use the family study room for diaper changing.
  • Nursing Mother Suites: The nearest Nursing Mother Suites are located in the Health Affairs Building East (EHABE) 1.111 and Mathematics and General Classroom (EMAGC) 2.202A.
  • Baby bottle warmer can be borrowed at the front desk.
  • If any items or toys are taken from the family study room, the bell will ring at the library exit.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all our users. Your cooperation and respect for these guidelines are greatly appreciated.
