Respiratory Fit Test Program: FAQ

Do I need to be fit tested even though I’ve been given an N95 by UTRGV staff/clinical site already?

Yes, we need to ensure you receive the proper training. This is an OSHA requirement.

Do I need to be fit tested on the BYD DE2322 if I was fit tested on a different make/model of N95 this year?

Yes, we need everyone tested on the BYD as this is what our main supply of masks consists of.

What if I have my own supply of N95s or tight fitting respirator?

EHSRM can fit test you on a personal mask. Just send me a picture of it so I know what to expect. P100 cartridges must be replaced every 6 months.

Do I need to be fit tested if my last fit test was performed about a year ago?

Yes, fit testing is required on an annual basis.

Do I need to be fit tested if I was recently fit tested on the BYD DE2322 by Student Health Services?

No, but please acquire a copy of your test results and forward to me (EHSRM).

Do I need to be fit tested if I am not working in clinics/labs and am able to maintain at least 6 ft from others while performing my work?

No.

How long can I wear an N95 before I need to replace it?

Up to 40 hours per CDC guidelines or if it becomes excessively soiled, damaged, contaminated by COVID positive person, no longer holding original shape, no longer passing seal checks.

How long do P100 cartridges last on a half face respirator?

Cartridges must be replaced every 6 months.

I purchased my own reusable N95 mask. How long do the filters on my Envomask last?

Replace filter daily per manufacturer’s instructions.

Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding fit testing or if you feel that you are exempt from this training/fitting.
