Occupational Health & Safety Program
The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program partners with facilities, police and all other personnel at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to provide and maintain safe working conditions, prevent industrial accidents, bring awareness to safety through training and to ensure that precautions are taken to ensure a workplace that is "free from recognizable hazards." Our goal is to simply make sure you leave at the end of the day, as healthy as when you arrived. The Occupational Health and Safety Program promotes health and safety procedures and assists the university community in identifying, evaluating, and eliminating occupational and workplace hazards that can cause illnesses or injuries to our staff, faculty, students and visitors.
The Occupational Health and Safety Program also monitors and advises about compliance with regulatory requirements established at the local, state, and federal levels. Written programs are provided to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations and standards. OH&S Program oversees and manages the following programs: Hearing Conservation, Confined Space Entry, Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Indoor Air Quality Investigations (unusual odors, mold, moisture, ventilation), Fall Protection, Respiratory Fit Test, Noise Surveys, Asbestos Program, Ergonomic Workstation Assessments, Heat Stress, Accident/Incident Investigation and consultations on various safety and health services.
OHS Program supports research, academic and operational compliance through exposure assessment, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and training. We believe in providing quality professional services that promotes the health and welfare of staff, faculty, students and visitors of the institution.
