Responsibility

Position Overview

Camp Assistant Counselors are responsible for assisting in ensuring a safe, fun and educational environment. Assistant Counselors are responsible for assisting in monitoring campers at all times.

Major Duties

  • Monitor campers at all times to ensure safety and enjoyment.
  • Assist campers with any issues that may arise (accidents, lunch, etc.)
  • Assist in guiding campers to and from classes, ensuring all campers are monitored at all times.
  • Assist with set up and tear-down of activities.
  • Be available to work summer camp late program.
  • Oversee lunch and snack breaks.
  • Serve as substitute in the absence of a counselor or instructor.
  • Enforce the established rules and regulations for summer youth camp in a fair, prudent and professional manner.
  • Assist with enforcement of policies and procedures of the recreational facility.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Must be a current student or a student pre-registered for the upcoming long semester (fall/spring, min. 12 hrs). Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Previous experience with sports and interacting with elementary age children.

Requirements

Ability to manage large groups of elementary aged children. Applicants must pass a Criminal Background Check and Child Protection Training. Good communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Notes/More Information:

Your job as assistant counselor will be to work with different groups throughout the summer, assisting the counselors throughout the day. Whether working the morning shift or the afternoon shift, one vital role will be assisting camp staff in lunch administration. You may also be asked to fill in for an absent counselor when needed, but ideally you will be there to play with the children, act as a role model for them, and assist the counselors in any and all duties.

  • Assist with emergency situations and evacuations when necessary.
  • Assist with enforcement of policies and procedures of the recreational facility.

Notes/More Information:

Your job as a camp counselor will to be a group leader for a specific age group of children. For the duration of the eight weeks, you will be with one age group of children (for example, 5 to 7 or 8 to 10) depending on your preference and availability. You will be asked to be a mentor and an example to all campers. Ideally, your role would consist of playing with the campers and assisting instructors throughout the day, while taking them from class to class. However, sometimes you may be asked to issue disciple, offer instructions, and assist in other duties depending on the age of your campers.

Instructor (Art)

Your job as Art instructor will be to instruct the campers in a variety of art styles and creations. Your task will be to come up with new activities and projects throughout the summer that will give the campers an opportunity to work with different mediums. The goal of this class is to give the campers a chance to explore new areas of arts and crafts while giving them a physical break from the full time athletic activities of the rest of the day.

Instructor (Dance)

Your job as Dance Instructor will be to introduce the campers to a variety of cultural dances, as well as some fundamentals to dance, movement, and exercise. Instructors will need to be able to create lessons that help campers discover new and exciting dances, play games that incorporate music and movement, and enjoy a new understanding of the joys of dance.

Instructor (Swim)

Your role as a swim instructor will be to introduce and develop campers to the lifelong activity of swim. Instructors will need to plan a variety of swim activities that help campers discover new and exciting ways to exercise and play games while in the pool. Lesson plans should focus on activities that get the campers moving and having fun in the water.
