Responsible for directly supervising various UREC activities, including, but not limited to Aquatics competitions and practices, Outdoor Adventures programming, and open recreation.

Position Overview

Program Assistants are responsible for assisting in various UREC programs including special events, fitness and wellness, online challenges, outdoor adventures, and sports club programming.

Programming

Major Duties

    • Assist in the growth of UREC programming on the Brownsville campus.
    • Assist in marketing programs including information tables, campus visits, handouts, orientations, etc.
    • Manage participant rosters for all programming.
    • Administer first aid when required.
    • Check facility for any potential hazards.
    • Assist with enforcement of policies and procedures of Duckhead Soccer Complex.
    • Assist with publicity of UREC events.
    • Assist with the daily operations of the office; office aid duties, equipment check out, and maintaining inventory.
    • Have a general knowledge of all UREC programming, hours of operations, memberships, and reservations.
    • Must attend all scheduled meetings and in-services.
    • Complete other duties as assigned by the University Recreation staff.
    • Track and prepare monthly program participant reports.
    • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of fitness/wellness programs.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current student or a student pre-registered for the upcoming long semester (fall/spring, min. 12 hrs.). Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Additional Information

  • Evening and Weekend hours may be required.
  • An interest in University Recreation and its programming is preferred but not required.
  • Must have fundamental knowledge and understanding of all sport rules.

Position Overview 
Promotional Assistants post flyers and signage around campus, table at weekly events, represent University Recreation at various campus events, promote our programs and services in a personable and fun demeanor. They assist in the preparation of print media and promotional items. They must be aware of all program areas to help answer patrons’ questions. 
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Promote department and program activities at approved campus locations and within department facilities 
  • Prepare and provide presentations on University Recreation offerings and benefits 
  • Manage the printing of and posting of flyers and postings within University Recreation facilities as well as various buildings on campus 
  • Responsible for representing the personality and voice of University Recreation through social media platforms 
  • Collaborates with University Recreation professional staff to create a Social Media calendar that is constantly changing and being updated as needs arise 
  • Works with all University Recreation areas to keep the website up-to-date 
  • Monitors and updates internal institutional marketing platforms like UREC App, V-link, UTRGV Messenger, and University Event calendar 
  • Monitor social media sites, respond to questions, and facilitate conversation 
  • Adhere to University and Department branding and style guidelines 
  • Abides by UTRGV guidelines regarding social media 
  • Perform other duties assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be a current student or a student pre-registered for the upcoming long semester (fall/spring, min. 12 hrs). Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in marketing, broadcast, or public relations.
  • Have a specialization in copywriting and social media.

Preferred

  • Able to work on a Mac and PC. Creative mind to draw, design, and create balanced compositions to promote events, activities, and programs.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Have a specialization in one or more of the following: copywriting and social media, design, photo/video editing, and archiving.
