Student Academic House Leaders

Emma Romoero
Emma Romero
House of Galen
Class of 202

What inspired you to join the Student Academic Houses?

I was inspired to join the Student Academic Houses because I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and learning about their unique interests and experiences. Medical school can be demanding, and I believe having a strong social and academic support system is essential to staying motivated, supported, and happy throughout the journey. The house system creates opportunities for students to build meaningful connections while strengthening our school community.

How do you hope to support your peers through your role as head of houses?

As Head of Galen House, I hope to support my peers by continuing to organize both educational and social events that bring students together. Activities such as field day and other house events help create balance during medical school and encourage teamwork, wellness, and connection between classmates. I want students to feel supported not only academically, but personally as well.

What are your main goals for your house this year?

My main goal for Galen House this year is to encourage greater participation in house activities and create events that students genuinely look forward to attending. I want our house to feel welcoming, energetic, and collaborative while promoting school spirit and involvement across all class years

How do you plan to foster a sense of belonging within your house?

I plan to foster a sense of belonging by creating more opportunities for students from different years to connect with one another through social events, team activities, and collaborative programs. As Social Chair of the Student Government Council, I am always open to new ideas that help strengthen connections within our school community. My goal is for every student to feel included, supported, and valued within our house and throughout medical school.

What inspired you to join the Student Academic Houses?

I was inspired to join the Student Academic Houses because I enjoyed the events the academic houses had throughout medical school. I would like to be a part of the team and help the houses grow into a fun and supportive community.

How do you hope to support your peers through your role as head of houses?

I hope to support my peers by listening to their concerns, encouraging open communication, and providing resources to help reduce stress during medical school. As the house head, I hope to be a person people can rely on.

What are your main goals for your house this year?

My main goals for my house this year are getting to know everyone, having entertaining events, and winning the House Cup.

How do you plan to foster a sense of belonging within your house?

I would like to host individual house events so that the house can be more connected with each other. This can be from game night, watching movies, or study sessions. We can also start a tradition for the house.

House of Osler
Class of 2029

What inspired you to join the Student Academic Houses?

My undergraduate university modeled its residential communities after the Harry Potter Houses, each with its own name, colors, and mascot. Seeing a similar house system at UTRGV SOM made me excited to get involved and contribute through a leadership role.

How do you hope to support your peers through your role as head of houses?

I hope to support my peers in Osler by fostering an environment of open collaboration. I want everyone to feel comfortable sharing ideas so that our events throughout the year reflect the interests of the entire house.

What are your main goals for your house this year?

One of my biggest goals is to establish signature Osler House traditions! In undergrad, each residential college had events that students looked forward to every year, and I'd love to create something similar that brings our members together and leaves a lasting tradition for future classes.

How do you plan to foster a sense of belonging within your house?

I plan to foster a sense of belonging by creating more opportunities for Osler House members to connect with one another. Whether through house-specific events or collaborations with the other Houses, I hope these gatherings provide a fun, welcoming space and bring a little joy during the busy academic year.

House of Blackwell
Class of 2029

I was inspired to join the Student Academic Houses by upperclassmen who guided and mentored me during my first year of medical school.

As head of Blackwell, I hope that I can help all the students feel connected with one another, feel heard, and also have fun with planned activities.

My main goal for Blackwell is for every member to feel like they can rely on each other and make lifelong friends.

I plan to have a group test where everyone can communicate with one another and also plan fun activities for each member to have fun.
