Research
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Maternal Health Research Center is dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes for mothers and babies in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. We want to empower healthier pregnancies for all mothers in the Rio Grande Valley through innovative research, education, and community engagement. Our focus is positive health outcomes for mothers overall. Our studies are designing and evaluating community health worker delivered interventions to increase psychological flexibility and address chronic disease risk in community settings, collecting birth stories to identify risk/resilience factors among women giving birth in our region, understand how parental stress and adverse childhood experiences impact parental and child health, and characterize the breastmilk exposome.
