I chose UTRGV because it is providing me a great education while staying close to home and my family, which is important to me as I am a very family-oriented person. Also, as a migrant student throughout my school years, I appreciated the assistance the university offered me. Quite simply, UTRGV offers a distinguished quality of education with exemplary professors.

What made you decide on your current major?
As I was choosing a career, I knew it had to be one where I could help other students succeed and accomplish all their goals. That is how I developed a passion to become an educator for the lower grade levels. It is during those years when teachers create a big impact on the future education of students. I want to become that person who helps students accomplish a distinctive education as well as prepare them to become successful citizens.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to become an educator in the Rio Grande Valley.  My ultimate goal is to continue my education and obtain a master’s degree in counseling and guidance.

What are you involved in on and off campus?
I am currently an English and ESL tutor at Robert Vela High School. It is an excellent opportunity for me to gain experience with students, and it is a pleasure for me to help those students who want to thrive in their education.

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
I am extremely proud of myself for making the dean’s list two years. My freshman year I earned a GPA of 3.5 and this past year I earned a GPA of 4.0.  Also, I am proud to have been accepted to UTRGV’s education program and getting closer to achieving my goal of graduation.

What advice do you have for future students?

The best advice I can give to future students is to never give up their goal, no matter what other people have to say about it. Also, time management and dedication are key to being successful once you start working on your degree.
