The Graduate Association of Bilingual Educators (GABE) is an organization that seeks to promote advocacy for bilingual students, to expand the bilingual paradigms by connecting individual ideas and values, and to provide an avenue for graduate students to expand their knowledge.

Established in 2011 by Dr. Joy Esquierdo, GABE is open to any graduate student interested in bilingual education and the fulfilling opportunity to give back to the community.

It is not a requirement that members be bilingual educators. Meetings are online with the use of Blackboard Collaborate/Zoom because we understand the value of convenience for our graduate students.

Membership

To become a member of GABE:

  1. Membership is open to students, faculty, and staff of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, political affiliation, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
  2. Membership is open to graduate students from any major. Members must be enrolled in at least one education graduate course.
  3. Only enrolled students at UTRGV can vote and/or hold office.
  4. Members must attend at least two meetings in the year and pay annual dues set by the officers of the organization.
  5. Membership will last for one academic year.

GABE Officers

Vice President - Deyra Pecina
