Earth Fest 2020

Earth Fest 2019

This year, we focus on Food Security, a global issue that hits close to home. According to the Food Bank of the RGV, nearly 1 in 2 children in the RGV live at or below the federal poverty level. Food insecurity has fluctuated between 1 in 5 and 1 in 7 households in the past 3 years. Food insecurity is a fluid state where some time during the calendar year, a family has had to juggle between paying housing, medical or other bills and buying nutritious foods for their family. It is very common for families to pay all their bills only to find very little left for nutritious foods.

The United Nations' Global Sustainability Goal 2: Zero Hunger aims to change the way we think about growing food; A profound change of the global food and agriculture system is needed if we are to nourish today’s 815 million hungry and the additional 2 billion people expected by 2050.  As an institution, UTRGV is in a position to inspire, engage, and prepare countless students to be socially conscious citizens and transformative leaders who will discover and apply sustainable solutions to preserve and maintain the planet.

Earth Fest 2018

Earth Fest BrownsvilleEarth Fest 2018 features the 4th annual Food Security Forum, with three panels made up of over 12 guest speakers taking place in the Edinburg Ballroom on April 19, concurrent with fun activities hosted by various student organizations and other Exhibitors on both campuses.
