Messages from the Office of the President - November 26, 2024

Each day, I am personally reminded about how much there truly is to be thankful for. Serving as your president this past decade is one of those privileges, and during that time, I have had the fortune of witnessing remarkable growth and success across the institution.

YOU ARE INVITED to a Holiday Reception with President Guy Bailey.

Messages from the Office of the President - November 08, 2024

Today is National First-Generation College Student Day, an annual acknowledgment of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965 and its impact on society. This critical legislation, which governs nearly all federal financial aid programs — including Pell grants — for the country’s postsecondary students, was signed into United States law on November 8, 1965, by President Lyndon Johnson at his alma mater, Texas State University.

Have you voted yet?  If not, there’s still time – today is Election Day!  Registered voters can vote at any polling location, including our Edinburg-campus polling site and our Harlingen Clinical Education Building.  You can click on the links below for a list of polling locations in Hidalgo and Cameron County.

Messages from the Office of the President - October 24, 2024

Have you voted yet?  We’ve all heard the saying “Your Vote is Your Voice” but far too few of us make our voices heard.  Voting in Texas is more than just a right—it's a powerful way to shape the future of our community, our state, and our country. Every vote is a voice that speaks for education, healthcare, justice, and the economy. By casting your ballot, you stand up for your beliefs and influence the policies that will affect generations to come. This is your chance to be heard, to make a difference, and to ensure that your values and vision for the future are represented. Together, we can build a stronger Texas and U.S. - one vote at a time

Messages from the Office of the President - September 26, 2024

So far, the fall 2024 semester has been nothing short of remarkable. From being named the #1 University in Texas by Washington Monthly for the second straight year, to being honored by the 2024 Great Colleges to Work For® program, it has felt like a monthlong celebration. These achievements speak volumes about the dedication and passion each of you brings to our university, and we want to thank you for being such a vital part of our success.

Messages from the Office of the President - August 26, 2024

Since opening our doors nearly a decade ago, UTRGV has been on an extraordinary mission to transform higher education in South Texas. Today, as we start this new academic year, I am beyond proud to share some record-breaking milestones that highlight just how far we've come — and the incredible future that lies ahead.

Messages from the Office of the President - July 01, 2024

Today marks my 10th anniversary as president of UTRGV, and there is only one proper way to celebrate: by saying thank you! I had been at the helm of several other schools when I arrived in the Rio Grande Valley, but this job was different. Thankfully, I started with a strong foundation established by a pair of respected legacy institutions, which mirrored the communities they anchored and embodied the spirit and resilience of the Valley.

Messages from the Office of the President - May 07, 2024

As we near the end of our eighth academic year, I am proud to share the video above highlighting our achievements and outlining our plans for continued growth and excellence.

Messages from the Office of the President - March 18, 2024

As our region continues to grow and evolve, so does our university. Never has that notion been more evident than it is today. We have accomplished so much this year, and everything you have done has helped make UTRGV the #1 University in Texas.

Messages from the Office of the President - March 01, 2024

UTRGV is participating in the Great Colleges to Work For® program, a national survey designed to recognize institutions that have made great workplaces. While we have not participated in the program before, UTRGV employees and students took part in similar campus climate surveys in 2021 and 2018, also administered by ModernThink LLC, an independent management consulting firm focusing on workplace quality in higher education. In the most recent survey, UTRGV scored results that were shocking in terms of improvement and virtually “unheard of”, according to ModernThink. Regardless of how we score, the data we receive from this survey will provide insights and allow us to build upon our campus climate initiatives, helping continue the process of making UTRGV the best workplace possible.

Video Message from the President:  - March 01, 2024

We’ve accomplished a lot this year. During the fall, we were named the #1 University in Texas by Washington Monthly and awarded our 50,000th degree to a UTRGV graduate. We also increased our minimum wage and implemented a 2% merit program for qualifying staff and faculty, marking the eighth straight academic year we have invested in either merit and/or market equity for our employees.
