Message from the President: 2019-20 Annual Report - December 14, 2020

The 2019-2020 academic year will go down as one of the most turbulent in higher education's history. Like many other institutions, UTRGV had no choice but to dramatically alter its operations - almost immediately - because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Message From the President: SACSCOC Reaffirmation Update - December 8, 2020

I am pleased to report that the SACSCOC Board of Trustees announced today that it has voted to reaffirm UTRGV with no recommendations or follow-up reporting required. This is the outcome every institution hopes for, and this success would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

Late Friday afternoon, a federal district court judge instructed the Trump administration to accept new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, vacating a memo from the acting Homeland Security secretary who had suspended it.

Message from the President - November 17, 2020

First and foremost, I hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe. I know times are still tough, but as always, I appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication. Please know that we remain committed to your safety and success, and that we will get through this together. As we wind down the fall semester, I’d like to provide information to help ensure that you end the year strongly and that you know what to expect when we start the spring semester on January 11.

Message from the President: Spring Relief Package! - October 19, 2020

We’ve done it again. When we launched our revamped Fall Relief Package a few months ago, we said we’d be sending more help your way come spring. Well today, I’m happy to announce that UTRGV is making good on that promise by providing you with more relief.

Message from the President - September 15, 2020

As some of you may know by now, Dr. John Krouse, Executive Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine, has announced that he will be stepping down from his administrative posts at the end of August 2021 to join our faculty in the School of Medicine.

Message from the President: Commitment to Safety and Success - August 18, 2020

I want to start this message by, once again, thanking all of you for your hard work and dedication during these difficult and challenging times. Due to your continued perseverance and adaptability, we continue to successfully navigate these unprecedented conditions together. As we end the summer semester and turn our focus toward a new academic year, I’d like to take the time to explain what you can expect when we start fall semester on August 24.

Message from the President: Fall Relief Package - July 27, 2020

I hope all of you are staying safe and healthy. Our constant focus is to do all we can to ensure your safety and well-being, and to do all we can to ensure your academic success. We know that the pandemic is still affecting many of you and your families financially. To help enable your success and recognizing that everyone's needs might be different right now, we have improved our Fall Relief Package to provide you with even more financial support.

Message from the President - July 14, 2020

During a hearing earlier today in a federal lawsuit filed by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it will immediately rescind its July 6 directive and subsequent FAQs related to online courses permitted for international students through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.

On Monday, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued new guidelines related to online courses permitted for our international students through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. UTRGV is home to an average of more than 800 international students each year. All of them are valued members of our diverse university community, and we are committed to helping them continue their education at UTRGV.

Message from the President - June 19, 2020

Today we come together to proudly celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. The state holiday is especially meaningful this year, as we continue to stand in solidarity with our Black community to end racism and injustices in our communities. Rest assured that at UTRGV, Black Lives Matter.

Message from the President - June 16, 2020

As you may already know, the number of positive COVID-19 (coronavirus) cases throughout the Rio Grande Valley continues to rise. While most of us are attending classes or working from home, this increase in cases should serve as a stark reminder for all of us that the virus is still prevalent in our communities. For the health and safety of our campus community, strictly adhering to health protocols and guidelines is more important now than ever before.

Message from the President - June 15, 2020

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that Title VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964, which bars employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin or sex, also protects gay, lesbian and transgender workers from workplace discrimination. While UTRGV policy already protected gay, lesbian, and transgender workers from discrimination, the Court’s opinion emphasizes that this protection is now a matter of federal law.

Message from the President - June 2, 2020

As we begin a new semester and continue to safely and gradually reopen our campus, we do so with sadness, anger and grave concern. As we head into the final week of the Spring Semester, I truly hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Over the past few weeks, to help ensure the safety and health of our campus community, we’ve had to completely change the way we operate.

A Message from Dr. Guy Bailey - March 27, 2020

These are unprecedented times. Many of us around the country have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This week we transitioned to remote instruction for the spring semester and our UTRGV students are adjusting to this new reality. As with any disruption to the norm comes hardship. Many of our students have lost jobs they depend on, some incurred unexpected moving and travel expenses, while others are unable to return home to be with their families.

To: Faculty & Staff. We deeply appreciate the work that all of you have done over the last few weeks to help our students cope with the effects of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
