Research
The Rio Grande Valley Cancer Health Disparity Research Center (RGV-CHDRC) at UTRGV conducts innovative research to address cancer and chronic disease disparities affecting Hispanic/Latino populations in South Texas. Our multidisciplinary research spans basic biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences, focusing on the molecular, environmental, and socio-behavioral factors driving cancer disparities in the region. The RGV-CHDRC supports three main research projects:
-
Cervical Cancer and HPV Research: Studying HPV prevalence, genotypes, and socio-behavioral influences to improve cervical cancer prevention and outcomes.
-
Liver Cancer and MUC13 Research: Investigating molecular mechanisms and socio-behavioral factors contributing to hepatocellular carcinoma disparities in Latino populations.
-
ASPIRE Behavioral Health Study: Integrating behavioral health into primary care to reduce distress and improve mental health outcomes for cancer patients and survivors.
Through these projects, the Center aims to improve early diagnosis, treatment outcomes, and quality of life for underserved communities in the Rio Grande Valley.
