Misael Martinez
UTRGV Mechanical Engineering student Misael Martinez had the opportunity to complete his UTCRS REU experience at Texas A&M University. Mr. Martinez had a deep interest in the area of biomechanics. He found an interesting application of his interests within the transportation field in the area of passenger safety. Using dynamic simulation software and equipment, such as LS-PrePost, MobaXTerm, a super computer and preexisting dummy models, Mr. Martinez analyzed the efficacy of wearing a seatbelt in a vehicle impact situation at various speeds and seatbelt configurations. His work during the 2016 UTCRS REU experience, highlights the importance of the correct use of vehicle safety features, and emphasizes that their incorrect use can result in severe injuries during an impact.
