APSI

AP Summer Institute

College Board encourages AP teachers to take advantage of the professional development offered to prepare for the 2026-2027 AP course updates and acquire new classroom resources. Survey data shows teachers nationwide have found AP professional development extremely valuable.

Teachers who do attend an AP Summer Institute in 2026 should be able to:

  • Understand the Course
    • The course framework defines the scope of the course and specifies what students must know and do to be successful on the AP Exam
  • Plan the Course
    • Sequencing, pacing, and scaffolding are essential for building students' understanding and their ability to transfer and apply knowledge and skills.
  • Teach the Course
    • Effective instructional strategies help students to develop a master of course content and skills over time.
  • Assess Student Progress and Understanding
    • Learning requires time, practice, and regular feedback.

In-a-Brief

Class Schedule

Classes meet Tuesday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch is on your own. 

Edinburg Campus

1201 W University Drive, Edinburg, TX 78539

All institutes are held on campus (unless otherwise noted).

Attire

Dress for APSI sessions is casual and comfortable. Classrooms are air-conditioned, and it is recommended to bring a sweater or light jacket. 

All science participants please adhere to the following lab rules: Wear lab coats, safety goggles, pants, long sleeve shirt, and closed-toe-shoes. You are not permitted to wear open-toe shoes while in the lab. 

 

ONLINE

Classes will meet as per scheduled agenda. Zoom links will be emailed the Friday before each session begins to the email linked to your CollegeBoard account.

Registration Steps for APSI 

Method of Payment

Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover) will be accepted. Participants must register on CVENT first and then you can pay with a credit card on our website. 


Purchase Orders need to be emailed to apsi@utrgv.edu after registration.

Refund, Cancellation & Transfer Policy

Refund requests must be submitted through CVENT by the deadline of May 22, 2026, no later than 5 p.m. for a full refund. Transfer requests need to be submitted through CVENT. Registration may be transferred to another individual from the same school or school district up to two weeks before the beginning of the institute.

Accommodations

To request accommodations, please call (956) 665-7574 at least two weeks prior to the course date.

Course Cancellations

Every effort is made to maintain course offerings. However, events such as instructor illness, inclement weather, or insufficient enrollment may require a schedule adjustment or cancellation. We will notify participants of any changes in the published information.

How do I know I have been registered for my course?

Once you are registered, you will receive a confirmation email with the information provided on your registration form. If you do not receive this confirmation, you are not registered.

How much does the institute cost?

Registration Fees:

Regular APSI: $600

Science Course: $700

Project-Based Learning Focus: $799

AP Business with Personal Finance: $799

Can I pay with a credit card?

Participants must register on CVENT first and then you can pay with a credit card on our website.

 

What if I need to cancel or change courses?

All cancellations and course changes must be done through your Cvent Account. For a full refund cancellation must be made before May 22, 2026.

If we do not receive a cancellation notice by our deadline, your district will be charged the full amount.

Is it possible to substitute my spot with another person?

A registration may be transferred to another individual from the same school or school district up to three weeks prior to the beginning of the institute. If the substitute needs a DIFFERENT class, the transfer may be made ONLY if space is available. Transfers must be done through CVENT.

Who will be teaching my course?

UTRGV contracts consultants who are endorsed by the CollegeBoard and who have distinguished themselves in their disciplines.

When will I receive my certificate of attendance?

In-Person: At the end of the Institute day on Friday, consultants will distribute certificates. Your certificate will indicate the number of hours of attendance.

For online courses, your certificate will be sent to the email address on file with CollegeBoard up to two weeks after the institute finishes.

What if I miss part of the institute?

Your certificate will only reflect the hours you attended your institute.

 

What happens to my materials if I am registered, but do not cancel or attend the institute?

If we do not receive a cancellation notice by our deadline, you will not be refunded and your materials will be available for pick up. You may pick up your materials at 1407 E Freddy Gonzalez Dr. ECESS 1.102 Edinburg, Texas 78542 at any time Monday-Friday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm up to 2 weeks after the institute closes. This does not include holidays.

If a course is already closed due to capacity, but someone does not show up, can I take their place?

No. If a course meets its maximum capacity, we cannot allow any other person to register for the course. If a participant does not attend the first day, he or she may decide to attend later in the week.

Will this course be held on campus?

In- Person Edinburg APSI will be held on campus at 1201 W University Dr Edinburg, TX 78539. All participants will meet on Campus in the Interdisciplinary Engineering & Academic Building on the first day of the institute, you will receive all materials and room assignments. 

ONLINE Sessions: Via Zoom

 

Can someone else register me on CVENT for APSI?

No. Teachers must register themselves using their CollegeBoard account. However, district personnel can pay the APSI fee using the following link or sending a purchase order to apsi@utrgv.edu.
