TSIA2 Remote Testing

What is the TSIA2?

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a program of diagnostic testing and developmental instruction designed to improve student success rates in Texas colleges, enacted by the Texas Legislature. When entering college, students are required to meet established minimum standards on assessment tests in math, reading, and writing. The assessments are untimed. However, students need to allow enough time to complete each test since the results are a critical factor in determining the course or courses in which they can enroll.

Options for setting up a remote testing session:

  1. Virtual Remote testing, you can take the TSIA2 at home using your home computer. You will need to use Examity to proctor your virtual remote testing session. You are responsible for the $25 proctor fee that is charged.
  • Complete a computer system check to ensure that your computer can carry out the exam. Go to https://examity.com/accuplacer-students/. Scroll down to Computer Requirements and click the test your computer requirements here link.

     2. Remote TSIA2 testing with another Institution, a local community college or University can assist with proctoring your remote TSI Assessment.

  • The proctor must be a member of the College Board Remote Testing Network and agree to assist with proctoring your TSI testing session.
  • You will be responsible for any proctoring fees charged by the testing center.

Steps for Setting up a TSIA2 Remote Session:

  1. Complete and submit a TSIA2 Remote Request Form and a copy of your Pre Assessment Activity which can be completed at https://practice.accuplacer.org/login to testing@utrgv.edu.
  2. TSIA2 fee will be set up on our online pay system at utrgv.edu/testing under Private Administration, this will happen within 48 hours of receiving both the Request form and Pre Assessment Activity.
  3. Once payment is received it may take up to 48 hours to create your voucher.  The voucher code will be sent via email to the email address as indicated on the TSIA2 Remote Request Form.
  4. Contact testing site that will be proctoring your exam to set up appointment for testing. If testing with Examity, instructions on setting up an appointment will be included on the remote voucher.
  5. Once testing is complete you will receive a copy of your results from the site proctoring your exam. Scores will also be available in your Accuplacer student account and can be retrieved at https://studentportal.accuplacer.org/#/studentisr.

Additional Information:

  1. EXAM FEE: $48 for both sections. ($32 for ELA-R and $16 for Math) Please Note: No convenience fee will be charged if paying with a credit card
  2. IDENTIFICATION: A valid (non-expired) PHOTO ID, preferably a driver’s license, recent school ID, or passport.
  3. REFUND POLICY: All exam fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred.
  4. CALCULATORS: Students are not allowed to use any type of calculator when taking a TSI assessment. A pop-up calculator is embedded in the test for some questions.
  5. RETEST POLICY: A student may retake the TSI Assessment at any time. However, before attempting to retest, it is strongly recommended that students review preparation materials.

Frequently Asked Questions on TSIA2:

Will my TSIA test scores be valid?

Yes, if you had taken the TSIA, your test scores are valid for a period of 5 years from the date of testing.

What changed with the launch of TSIA 2.0?

Some of the TSIA 2.0 changes include:

  • Reading and Writing tests will be combined into one ELAR section
  • New college ready scores for Math and ELAR:

TSIA 2.0 Scores:

ELAR (Reading and Writing) - College Ready Classification (CRC) 945 and Essay 5 or College Ready Classification (CRC) less than 945 and Diagnostic Level of a 5 or 6 and at least a 5 Essay

Math - College Ready Classification (CRC) 950 or below 950 and Diagnostic Level 6

If I was TSIA complete on Reading and not and Writing will I have to take the new ELAR test or can I just take the Writing test?

The Reading and Writing Sections are combined into one ELAR section. You will not be able to take them separately. You will see both Reading and Writing questions and possibly the essay when taking the ELAR section. Your result on the ELAR section will determine if you reach the College Ready Classification in both Reading and Writing.

If was TSIA Math complete, do I have to take the new TSI 2.0 Math test?

No, if you were TSIA complete (college ready) in Math you do not have to retest as long as your test scores are not older than 5 years from the date of testing.
