We have developed the Brightspace Student Orientation to help you get comfortable with the Brightspace interface, find course content, participate in discussions, submit assignments, and take quizzes and exams. You’ll also learn how to check your grades and track your progress throughout the semester.
Why Complete the Student Orientation Course?
We highly recommend that all students complete this orientation before the semester starts. Some instructors may even require you to finish the modules and submit the completion certificate as an early course activity.
How to Access and Complete the Student Orientation:
- Log in to Brightspace:
- Log in to my.utrgv.edu and click on the Brightspace icon.
- Find the Orientation Course:
- Select the title for the Brightspace Students Orientation. You might need to click on the “Trainings” semester tab at the top of the My Course widget.
- Important: To see the Brightspace Orientation course in your "My Courses" widget, you might need to self-enroll. Simply go to "Discover," search for "Brightspace Student Orientation," and click "Enroll in Course." For more information, check the How to Self-Enroll into an organization article.
- Complete the Modules:
- Inside the orientation, you’ll see six module tiles. You need to complete each module to get your completion certificate.
- Click on a module tile, review all the material, and complete the tasks assigned. You must score 90% on each Knowledge Check to complete the orientation. Don’t worry, you can retake the Knowledge Checks as many times as needed.
- Check Your Scores:
- After completing all Knowledge Checks with 90% or more, go to the Grades link in the navigation bar to confirm your scores.
- Download Your Certificate:
- Once you’ve confirmed all your scores, go to the Course Activities link in the navigation bar and select Awards.
- Click on the certificate link and then the “Generate Certificate” button at the bottom of the pop-up window. This will create a PDF of your certificate, which you can submit to your instructor if required.
