Empower your teaching with Brightspace! The Center for Online Learning & Teaching Technology offers hands-on training sessions for all UTRGV faculty. Learn how to leverage Brightspace to enhance your courses, regardless of your teaching modality (face-to-face, hybrid, or online).

The training sessions we offer are listed below. Please check the UTRGV Training Services Portal for specific dates, times, and modalities (in-person and online).

Note: To receive full credit for attending the training session, faculty must remain present for the session's entire duration. Attendance will be recorded in the UTRGV Training Services portal for departmental professional development records.

Description:  This training introduces instructors to the essential accessibility tools built into Brightspace, including the Brightspace Accessibility Checker and the Ally Course Accessibility Report. Participants will learn how to identify and resolve common accessibility issues, interpret Ally indicators and scores, apply best practices for creating accessible documents and media, and improve the overall accessibility of their course content. By the end of the session, instructors will be equipped with practical strategies to design inclusive learning materials and enhance the student experience.

Description: This Panopto training session introduces faculty and staff to the essential tools for creating accessible course videos, including how to record and edit videos, generate and refine captions for accuracy, and use key accessibility features such as audio descriptions to support all learners. By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident creating inclusive, student-friendly media for their courses .

Description: This workshop goes over the Apply the Quality Matters Rubric and how to apply it in reviewing the design of online and blended courses. This rubric introduces participants to best practices, instructional design, and research-based design principles of an online/hybrid course to ensure quality assurance. This workshop is required if you are planning to teach online.

We’ll identify common overload traps, like too many tools or unclear directions, and share simple ways to keep things focused and manageable.
