All departments, university-wide, participate in a four-year assessment cycle called the New Assessment Framework. Each year, the University Library will evaluate programs and services by assessing four areas. At the beginning of the assessment cycle, the library created outcomes, benchmarks, and collection plans for each area. Data is collected and evaluated at the end of each period (May) and both the expected outcomes and assessment process are evaluated and adjusted for the upcoming year via a series of meetings with involved departments. The assessment cycle is intended to be a process of self discovery and improvement and should clarify how to the library can identify goals and better meet the needs of its patrons.

Reporting Period: September-May, Annually

Data Collection Period: May-August (Data is collected by May 15th, meetings are held with departments from June-August)

Outcome Title Assessing the Impact of Textbook Affordability Initiatives at UTRGV
Outcome Statement Improve student saving and return on investment by implementing or expanding affordability programs. Track essential metrics, including total student savings, return on investment (ROI), and the number of students benefiting from affordable resources (such as Open Educational Resources and Unlimited License Material). This assessment will provide data-driven insights to support continued development and funding of affordability initiatives, while also identifying opportunities to expand access and resource allocations.

Enhancing Student Success Through Library Employment: A Skills Assessment

Outcome Statement To evaluate the development of key workplace skills among student employees through their roles in the library, this initiative will implement both pre-assessment and post-assessment surveys to measure specific skill growth, such as communication skills and professionalism. As a result, this will help identify areas where the library’s student employee training modules can be strengthened.

Aligning In-Person Instruction Across Campus Locations

Aligning In-Person Instruction Across Campus Locations

Outcome Statement Improve the distribution of instructional sessions and course offerings delivered by Research and Instruction (R&I) librarians between the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses, ensuring that staffing levels adequately meet the instructional needs at both locations. The following services will also be assessed: workshops, targeted outreach efforts, faculty conversations and focus groups, classroom availability on each campus, and the department’s overall marketing approach.

To gather and analyze student feedback on their experiences with library customer service to assess service quality, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and enhance overall user satisfaction. This evaluation will inform service training, staff development, and future customer service initiatives within the library.
