Coaching at UTRGV

Intro

We have launched our internal coaching program and are excited to now offer coaching to Faculty & Staff by our certified in-house leadership coaches (in addition to previously existing coaching offerings through external coaching partners). As part of this program, UTRGV employees can submit an interest form to receive in-house coaching. Two (2) ways to request a coach:
  • Self-request
  • Supervisor request

After an interest form is successfully submitted, a coach will reach out to schedule a brief discovery call to determine next steps. A submission of an interest form itself does not automatically gauarantee a coaching engagement.

The interest form is available at the bottom of this webpage. Please note that all coaching engagements (with internal & external coaches) are being managed through the Office of Human Resources. If you are currently working with an external coach, sponsored/engaged by UTRGV, please contact us at coaching@utrgv.edu.

For any additional questions, please contact us at coaching@utrgv.edu

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a partnership (defined as an alliance, not a legal business partnership) between the Coach and the Client in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the client to maximize personal and professional potential. It is designed to facilitate the creation/development of personal, professional or business goals and to develop and carry out a strategy/plan for achieving those goals. Coaching is not therapy and does not substitute for therapy if needed, and does not prevent, cure, or treat any mental disorder or medical disease.

A coaching session is designed to ask questions that create space for self-reflection that will turn into action to help achieve goals in both professional and personal life

Frequently Asked Questions

Information (documented or verbal) that the Client shares with the Coach as part of this relationship, is bound by the principles of confidentiality set forth in the ICF Code of Ethics.
If there are concerns for the client's safety or the safety of others or if information is shared about sexual misconduct that requires reporting under Title IX, or a policy or law violation, these will be reported as required by university policy.

Individual coaching sessions are set up at a mutually agreeable time, virtually or in-person, between the coach and the client. Typical sessions last 45-60 minutes and occur bi-weekly or monthly for 6 or more sessions. This can vary by client and need. We also offer coaching growth sprints - a shorter and more intense time together as we meet 5 times in only 6-8 weeks.
Internal coaching engagements are free of charge for UTRGV Faculty and Staff. The cost of working with an external coach will depend on the engagement and selected coach.
