Carly Vollet has taught mathematics in community colleges, high schools, and universities, giving her experience with students at many different stages of their mathematical journey. As both a former K-12 department chair and a college mathematics instructor, she has developed a broad understanding of mathematics education and uses this to inform her work with pre-service teachers.
Her goal is to help students develop confidence in themselves as both educators and mathematicians. She serves as a faculty advisor for the Mathematical Society (MSOC) at UTRGV and enjoys creating opportunities for students to engage with mathematics beyond the classroom.
Carly sees mathematics in everyday life and loves helping others recognize it too. She regularly incorporates real-world observations into inquiry-based lessons. Her favorite educational concept is the "curiosity gap" because she believes curiosity is one of the most powerful drivers of learning, leading to enduring understanding.
