About the Student Support and Well-being initiative
The university is committed to promoting good physical and emotional health and well-being. The Dean of Students Office and various campus partners lead initiatives to ensure well-being is part of the student experience. Departments across campus build capacity for health-promoting activities by coordinating strategic approaches and programming that align with the university’s mission and the principle of promoting health and well-being.
IMPORTANT: We recognize that events across the state and around the world may be unsettling and have a direct impact on students. The Dean of Students Office is here to support all students as they navigate the challenges that may arise from being a college student and life outside the classroom. Students who need help with academic challenges, personal concerns, caring for their well-being, or simply want someone to talk to can reach out to us at wellbeing@utrgv.edu or 956-665-2260. Referrals can be for others or self-referrals. |
Support through Case Management
Case Managers in the Dean of Students Office are dedicated to supporting students facing challenges that may affect their success. They promote student well-being by offering compassionate support, connecting students with campus and community resources, and helping them navigate academic life.
We help when students:
- Encounter barriers to success in their academic or personal lives.
- Are unsure where or how to get help.
- Have concerns about their well-being or a friend’s.
- Are facing significant health or emotional challenges.
- Need assistance accessing resources on the UTRGV campus or in the surrounding community.
- Need support navigating academic or administrative processes.
- Identify as needing support (e.g., managing anxiety, depression, a disability, etc.)
Ways we support students:
- Evaluate individual needs and identify appropriate resources.
- Connect students to services such as medical care, mental health support, employment, housing, tutoring, and campus involvement opportunities.
- Build supportive relationships and maintain ongoing communication.
- Encourage self-advocacy to help students manage academic, personal, and financial well-being.
- Advocate on behalf of students based on their specific needs.
