Behavioral Intervention Team

The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) assesses, consults, and responds to student behavior that is concerning or threatening. The team is dedicated to helping the student by developing a specific strategy and recommending appropriate action to university officials for each case. The purpose of BIT is to assist in university-wide efforts to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the UTRGV community.

Types of referrals include but are not limited to:

  • Written material containing alarming wording or out-of-context wording
  • Statements that indicate the threat of harm to self or others
    • Injury/illness
    • Suicidal ideations or attempts
    • Threatening behavior
  • A disregard for personal boundaries
    • Classroom and other behavioral issues
  • A significant change in behavior
    • Alcohol/substance abuse
    • Classroom and other behavioral issues
    • Hospitalizations
    • Students in distress
