Introducing: UTRGV’s Strategic Plan

October 20, 2022

Dear UTRGV Family,

Last fall, we embarked on a strategic planning process to redefine the mission, vision, and direction of the University for the next five years and beyond. Today, we are proud to share with you, UTRGV’s Strategic Plan.

What’s in the new Strategic Plan?

While we are continuing to invest in many foundational areas, we have also identified new areas of focus to better serve our students, our employees, and the Rio Grande Valley as a whole.

One big change you will notice is our updated mission statement, which reflects our commitment to service and providing students with a unique multicultural education centered around their success. Pending approval by The University of Texas System Board of Regents, our refined mission statement will guide us toward actualizing our goals in research, healthcare, and innovation, sustainable development, community engagement, and well-being.

How did we get here?

The UTRGV Steering Committee and Executive Committee, tasked with leading this effort, gathered and reviewed demographic, enrollment, and other data as well as case studies from peer institutions to inform their thinking regarding future opportunities for the University. Late last year, we also launched an online survey to gather broad input and received over 1,000 responses from students, faculty, and staff.

These committees, with the help of our higher education consultants from Huron, conducted hours of interviews and focus groups with UTRGV staff, faculty, administrators, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, donors, employers, and community partners. After synthesizing all the input and ideas we received, we prioritized our strategic areas of focus and developed the Strategic Plan we present to you today.

We greatly appreciate their dedication and want to recognize them for their contributions throughout this critical process:
