RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – Students at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley are encouraged to apply for the Rio Grande Valley Legislative Internship Program (VLIP).

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – SEPT. 12, 2018 – UTRGV'S College of Sciences was recently awarded a grant for its project, "Transforming Undergraduate Education in STEM Through Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Community Engagement," from the National Science Foundation.
The NSF's Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program award to UTRGV was one of 31 issued to other Hispanic-serving institutions that proposed research focusing on the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.Read the full release.
RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – JUNE 20, 2018 – The Harlingen High School SeaPerch team placed 18th overall out of 75 teams at the International Sea Perch Competition, June 1-3 at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – APRIL 18, 2018 – Dedication and hard work to the MATHCOUNTS state program has garnered a top award for Milton Hernandez, program coordinator in the UTRGV Office of Community Relations.
Hernandez was named the Texas MATHCOUNTS Coordinator of the Year for 2017-2018. He accepted the award at the Texas State MATHCOUNTS competition in March in Austin. Read the full release.
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – APRIL 9, 2018 – UTRGV hosted the first HESTEC GreenPowerUSA South Texas Electric Car Competition, held at the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport on April 6-7.
Thirty one teams representing middle school, high school and colleges from across South Texas competed in the competition, which delivered the excitement of motorsport to inspire students to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) studies.

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – FEB. 8, 2018 – More than 700 middle and high school students from across South Texas participated in the 58th annual Rio Grande Valley Regional Science and Engineering Fair, hosted by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Sat. Feb. 3.
Students competed in 17 science-related fields of study. The top three winners from each category, both senior and junior divisions, now advance to the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio in March.

EDINBURG, TEXAS – MARCH 1, 2018 – For Chilean author Alejandro Zambra, there are multiple ways to get home. The feeling of “home” is up to the interpreter – the reader.
“Literature gives you the possibility of talking about many different things at the same time,” Zambra said. “That idea of facing the past – it’s not that you will solve it by writing a book. A book is about what happens when you try to write a book.”
Zambra’s latest book, Ways of Going Home, is a self-reflexive vehicle about dealing with the past, exploring heritage and the idea of belonging.

EDINBURG, TEXAS – MARCH 1, 2018 – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley hosted more than 200 middle and high school students at the U.S. Department of Energy Regional Science Bowl, held Feb. 17 on the Edinburg Campus.
Students representing 24 middle and high schools from across South Texas took part in the fast-paced question-and-answer tournament designed to test their knowledge of biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy and math.
The top winners in each division now advance to the National Science Bowl, to be held April 26-30 in Washington, D.C.

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – FEB. 22, 2018 – Mr. Amigo 2017 Pedro Fernández was greeted with enthusiasm and fanfare Thursday in Brownsville, during a Charreada celebration co-hosted by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Texas Southmost College.

EDINBURG, TEXAS – FEB. 15, 2018 – More than 100 middle school students from across the Rio Grande Valley competed Friday Feb. 9, in MathCounts at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Edinburg Campus.
Designed to excite and challenge middle school students, the MathCounts program offers four levels of competition featuring both a rigorous written competition and a fast-paced oral competition. This national program provides students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers.
