Graduate Resource Grant

UTRGV understands the importance of supporting our students and families by making the university experience more affordable.

The Graduate Resource grant will be available to Graduate students in both traditional and accelerated online programs (excluding medical doctor students), and eligible students may receive up to $2,000 ($1,000 per Fall/Spring term) based on their financial need as determined by their FAFSA.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a Texas Resident
  • Submit a FAFSA by the Priority deadline of February 15th
  • Must have Financial Need* as determined by FAFSA
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours (or 3 hours per module) for the awarded semester
  • Be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
  • Have a minimum of 3.0 GPA in the master's program
  • Have a minimum of 3.25 GPA for the doctoral program

Fund availability is per academic year and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

FAQs

The Graduate Resource Grant is the university’s commitment to making higher education more accessible for students pursuing a graduate degree. UTRGV understands the importance of providing financial assistance for students with unmet financial needs and strives to provide transparency in the awarding process.

A minimum of 2,500 graduate students, both traditional and accelerated online (excluding medical doctor students), will receive up to $2,000 ($1,000 per Fall/Spring term) based on their financial need as determined by the FAFSA (financial aid application). Important Note: This grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on funding availability.

Yes, students need to be fully admitted into a graduate program. Students admitted conditionally will not be considered for this grant.

Eligible students may receive up to $2,000 based on their financial need as determined by the FAFSA (financial aid application).

This grant is not renewable. To qualify, students must meet the criteria every new academic year.

The Graduate Resource Grant is for students seeking a graduate degree who meet all the eligibility criteria.

Financial Need is the difference between the cost of attendance and the expected family contribution. (Financial Need = COA – EFC).

Unmet Financial Need, sometimes referred to as a gap, is the difference between Financial Need and the student’s need-based financial aid awards. (Unmet Financial Need = Financial Need – Financial Aid).

To be considered for this grant, students must meet the FAFSA priority deadline of January 15. Important Note: This grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on funding availability.

The Graduate Resource Grant is awarded to students who attend the entire academic year (Fall and Spring), and funds are typically not available for students who attend only in Spring.

Students pursuing a 2nd master's will still be considered if they meet all the required criteria to be eligible for the grant. Important Note:  This grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on fund availability.
