Verification FAQs

ProVerify is software powered by ProEd that enables students to complete verification on their smartphones, tablets, or computers. If your FAFSA application is selected for verification, you will receive an introductory email at your UTRGV email address.

Verification is a review process created by the U.S. Department of Education that enables the UTRGV Financial Aid Office to determine the accuracy of information provided on students' financial aid applications. The Financial Aid Office will request documentation such as copies of Tax Return Transcripts filed by the student and, if applicable, the student's parent(s) or spouse.

The verification process could take approximately three weeks from the date we receive all requested documents, especially if documents are submitted after our priority deadline (July 1st) or if corrections are required after the review process, due to conflicting information. Thereafter, you will receive an award notification from the Financial Aid Office outlining your eligibility for financial assistance. There are times when our office will send more than one award notification during the academic year, especially if there are changes made to your financial aid award.

Applying and completing your financial aid application promptly could result in eligibility for Federal and State aid, which is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Financial aid money will be available before the payment due date. An early disbursement may be available for purchasing books/supplies for the semester.

We strongly advise students to submit their verification paperwork as soon as possible to prevent delays in the awarding and disbursement of aid. The last day to submit documentation for each academic year will be no later than ninety (90) days from the last date of enrollment or June 1st, whichever is earlier. Your failure to provide the requested documentation within the specified period may result in the denial of financial aid for a semester or academic year, and future applications for financial aid not being processed.

All students should sign in to their ASSIST account to view pending financial aid forms and documents. You can access your ASSIST account at my.utrgv.edu.

Students selected for verification will need to complete their verification process in the ProVerify portal. If you need to complete your verification process in ProVerify, you must fill out, sign, and submit documents online; print forms are not acceptable. Once you sign in to your ASSIST account, you will see a link to ProVerify under your pending requirements.

All other students should sign in to their ASSIST account to access their required forms and documents.
