Schedule an Appointment
Meeting with the Career Education team can be helpful at all stages of your career journey, from early exploration to landing your first job.
To schedule an appointment, follow the steps below. If you have any trouble scheduling or have any further questions, please let us know at careercenter@utrgv.edu.
- Log in myUTRGV and click on the '12twenty' icon
- Select 'Appointments' on the left navigation bar
- Select your College
- Select your Appointment Type
- View available time slots and choose your preferred date and time
- Complete all booking information and 'Book Appointment'
Appointment Categories
What it is: Explore majors/careers with a career advisor using a guided conversation. We’ll connect your strengths, interests, and values to realistic options.
Best for: “I’m undecided,” “I have a few ideas,” or “I want to confirm my direction.”
Prep: None needed; bring any ideas or questions.
You’ll leave with: A shortlist of career paths + next-step actions.
What it is: Feedback or build-from-scratch help for résumés, CVs, cover letters, LinkedIn, networking emails, and negotiation notes. (CV/discipline-specific guidance available)
Best for: Anyone creating or polishing application materials.
Prep: Bring a draft if you have one, and encourage them to use VMock if they don’t.
You’ll leave with: Concrete edits, templates, and wording you can use.
What it is: Shape your professional brand - LinkedIn/profile clean-up, elevator pitch, attire, career-fair etiquette, networking messages, and (optional) mentorship/leadership opportunities.
Best for: Students building visibility and connections.
Prep: Bring your LinkedIn or a draft pitch if you have one.
You’ll leave with: a polished brand statement, networking scripts, and next steps.
What it is: Explore and target internships and jobs; learn search strategies, networking tactics, and how to use Handshake/LinkedIn effectively.
Best for: Students at any stage, starting or leveling up a search.
Prep: Bring interests or sample roles; none required.
You’ll leave with: A tailored search strategy + target list and next steps.
What it is: Mock interview or strategy session for jobs, internships, or graduate programs. Available in-person, on Zoom, VMock, or via InterviewStream(Alumni).
Best for: Upcoming interviews or wanting to practice now.
Prep: A job/program description if possible; come as you are.
You’ll leave with: Targeted feedback + a practice plan and sample answers.
What it is: The Career Closet is a program through the Career Center for enrolled students and alumni. You can schedule an appointment on 12twenty to view the inventory.
Prep: Know your sizing for both pants and shirts, or at least a rough estimate.
You’ll leave with: Clothing for your professional development.
What it is: Decide if grad/professional school fits your goals, map timelines, and strengthen applications (program list, prerequisites, personal statements, recommenders).
Prep: Any programs you’re eyeing; drafts are welcome.
You’ll leave with: A competitive plan + deadlines and resources.
Drop-In Hours
Get support from trained career advisors Monday-Friday in ESTAC 2.101 (Edinburg) or BINAB 1.105 (Brownsville); no appointment needed! Career Advisors are available every week from AM - 4pm M-TR, and AM - 1pm on Friday.
