General Function:  To assist in a wide variety of general clerical duties (data entry, copying, filing, scanning), execute procedures relating to the Learning Center and its services to students, faculty, and the general public.

Position Requirements:  The ability to work independently and as a team player, the ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheet and database software, use of standard office equipment such as multi-line telephone and network printer.

Responsibilities:  Perform all general duties and duties assigned by supervisors or department heads in an efficient and timely manner. Conduct excellent customer service to all who seek our assistance at all times. Conduct presentation of department services at student orientations/events.

  • Will create and manage course - specific materials and resources.
  • Encourage a friendly and productive group learning environment.
  • Communicate with faculty on a weekly basis.
  • Input attendance and observational notes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of targeted courses.
  • Good leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Good interpersonal communications skills and ease in relating to people of varying. educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Appropriate and professional behavior at all times.
  • Department Faculty approval.
  • End of Course grade of “A” in the targeted course.
  • 3.0 GPA.
  • Completion of PLTL/SI training prior to the beginning of semester.
  • Ability to work with students at various academic levels and needs.
  • Hours of work per week may vary: 5-15, dependent on need and funding.
  • Attends lectures, takes notes, and reads course material 
  • Conducts two to four Supplemental Instructions sessions per week 
  • Facilitates interactive learning activities that integrate study strategies with course content 
  • Prepares handouts with questions/problems to be covered during the SI session 
  • Conducts exam review sessions 
  • Host office hours 
  • Attends all scheduled meetings with faculty 
  • Models outstanding student behavior and successful academic practices 
  • Attending additional training sessions and staff meetings. 
  • Good level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality 
  • Encourage a friendly and productive learning environment 
  • Schedule appointment times for students who are part of ACE program 
  • Contact student (email, text, phone call) to remind him/her of upcoming appointment no less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time.

  • Take notes of what was covered during the session and document in EAB Navigate. 
  • Maintain each student’s file with appropriate documentation, notes, phone calls, emails, and additional meetings, etc.  
  • Strong organizational skills needed to keep track of appointments and attendance 
  • Model appropriate strategies for students based on their specific needs. 
  • 19 Hours of work per week  
  • Tutors for specific academic subjects to individuals or small groups. 
  • Communicates student progress with the tutoring program supervisor. 
  • Monitors the academic progress of students. 
  • Promote Learning Center services during orientations, tabling, and other university events.  
  • Participates in a training program for developing tutoring techniques and learning skills. 
  • Attends additional training sessions and staff meetings. 
  • Lead a dialogue group of students enrolled in PHIL 1310: Ethics, Happiness, & The Good Life or PHIL 2326 Ethics, Technology and Society.  
  • Receive 19 hours of training before classes start, as well as ongoing mentoring in the art of facilitating philosophical dialogue.  
  • Take PHIL 4395: PWOL Dialogue Facilitation Practicum   
  • Work on the PWOL Team with other PDLs and the PWOL professors. 
  • Encourage a friendly and productive learning environment.  
  • Develop leadership and mentoring skills.  
  • Develop good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people of varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.  
  • Develop strong organizational skills.  
  • Work with students at various academic levels and with varying needs 
  • Demonstrate responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.   
  • Demonstrate appropriate and professional behavior at all times.   
  • Conducts weekly sessions focused on learning activities that integrate study strategies with course content to provide additional content support  
  • Prepares handouts with questions/problems to be covered during the CSHR Session  
  • Hosts office hours at the Learning Center  
  • Maintains records of student attendance 
  • Models outstanding student behavior and successful academic practices  
  • Attends additional training sessions and staff meetings.
