Academic Affairs Transition Update

Congratulations once again to our Provost/EVPAA, Dr. Havidán Rodríguez, for being named University at Albany’s next president.

In preparation for his departure, I have met with several groups on campus, including the executive committees of the Faculty Senate and Women’s Faculty Network, the Deans, and leadership in Academic Affairs. We are committed to moving quickly both to appoint an interim and to appoint a permanent replacement. We hope to have an interim appointed by early August, a search committee in place by the end of August, and a national search underway shortly thereafter. The composition of the search committee will be large enough to allow for broad representation. This is an aggressive timeline, but it will allow us to sustain our current momentum with minimal disruption. You will receive periodic updates to keep the campus informed of our progress.

Budget Update

As stated in my June 2nd communication, “faculty who have been hired for the Fall will be brought on board as usual, and the equity, compression, and other adjustments in salaries for both faculty and staff that were begun last year will be continued.”

In spite of a reduction of some $24 million in state appropriations, we have made equity and compression adjustments a top priority and have carved out $5 million for this critical initiative.
