Important Message

December 16, 2016

Dear UTRGV Students:

UTRGV’s regional accrediting body, SACSCOC, announced that UTRGV has been placed on probation.

What does this mean for our students? We have developed an FAQs page (www.utrgv.edu/accreditationupdate) that will answer many of the questions you may have, but in short, UTRGV remains accredited so your courses, your degree program, your financial aid, your scholarships, and your diploma are unaffected. Let me reiterate that UTRGV remains accredited by SACSCOC. Consequently, we will continue to operate and function as an accredited university. Our academic credentials remain strong, our faculty are exemplary, and our commitment to providing the very best education and services to our students remains our top priority.

Unfortunately, at this time, we have not received any official or written notification detailing what concrete factors resulted in this action. Consequently, we do not know what specific steps or initiatives SACSCOC will require from UTRGV to remove this sanction. However, as we have continuously done during this transition period, we will work with SACSCOC to resolve the specific issues in order to remove this probationary status from UTRGV as quickly as possible.

We are confident that we will be able to resolve the issues. As soon as we are notified regarding the specific factors that led to this situation, which we expect to be in January, we will work with SACSCOC to resolve the issues to remove UTRGV from probation as soon as possible. We will update the FAQs page with information as we receive it.

We are and will continue to be committed to the success of our students and of this great institution.

Sincerely,

Guy Bailey, President
Havidán Rodríguez, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
Kristin Croyle, Vice President for Student Success
