Office of Institutional Equity

October 31, 2016

Dear UTRGV students, faculty, staff:

As we continue working together to build a university that will transform the region, Texas and beyond, we must be strongly committed to building and promoting a diverse, inclusive learning and working environment that is free of all forms of discrimination, including sexual misconduct and sexual harassment.

The Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) and the Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators are charged with leading our efforts in promoting diversity and ensuring non-discrimination.  The goal of the OIE is to promote a campus climate that understands that sexual misconduct and sexual harassment in any form (including sexual violence) will not be tolerated. It is the role of the OIE to promote awareness of antidiscrimination laws, including Title IX, Title VII, The Campus Save Act, the Clery Act and the Violence Against Women Act. Should any faculty, staff, administrator or student have concerns related to discrimination, including sexual misconduct and sexual harassment, these concerns can be taken directly to the Office of Institutional Equity at www.utrgv.edu/equity.

Promoting diversity and equal opportunity – and ensuring non-discrimination – are fundamental to UTRGV’s commitment to excellence, and we must work together to fulfill this commitment.  I encourage you to review UTRGV’s non-discrimination policies in their entirety at ADM 03-100 Non-Discrimination and Complaint Procedure; ADM 03-200 Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities; and ADM 03-300 Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct. Through the OIE website at www.utrgv.edu/equity, you can learn more about your rights, safety on campus, sexual misconduct and sexual harassment, consent, retaliation, and available campus and community resources.

Please join me in ensuring that all members of the UTRGV community embrace our commitment to a diverse, inclusive learning and working environment.

Sincerely,

Guy Bailey
President
