A Message from the President

October 7, 2014

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new member to my executive team at UTRGV.

Martin V. “Marty” Baylor will serve as the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration at UTRGV.

Marty is currently the Vice President for Business Affairs at The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg. He will continue in that role while taking on his new job as Executive VP for Finance and Administration.

Before joining UTPA in September of 2010, Marty was associate vice president for budget and resource planning at The University of Texas at Dallas. A certified Transactional Lean Facilitator, he earned his M.B.A. from Baylor University-Dallas Campus and a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. Marty brings a wealth of experience in the business and finance areas having worked at several higher education institutions across the state.

I also want to welcome Maria Yanez-Conde, Veronica Cortez, Selene Castro and Alma Solis to the Office of the President.

Their professionalism, highly developed organizational skills, attention to detail and expertise in university processes will be valuable in their new roles at UTRGV.

Maria has accepted the position of Executive Assistant to the President. She will be based in Harlingen but will oversee the campus offices and will work closely with me to coordinate all activities associated with the Office of the President. Maria has served the institution for 29 years, and most recently she has served as Executive Associate to the Provost at UTB/TSC. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and business administration from UTB/TSC.

Veronica will be the Senior Administrative Associate in Harlingen. Her 15 years of service at UTB/TSC has spanned appointments in the College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and most recently as Senior Administrative Assistant in the Office of the President, where she developed great expertise in event planning and presidential protocol. Her warm and welcoming presence will be an excellent addition to the President's Office in Harlingen.

Selene will be the Senior Administrative Associate in Edinburg. While fairly new in her role in the Office of the President at UTPA, she brings over 10 years of experience in Corporate Operations and Project Management. Selene is also highly skilled in working with remote teams having run global operations planning and analysis during her long tenure at Dell Inc.’s corporate headquarters in Round Rock, Texas.

Alma Solis will be the Senior Administrative Associate in Brownsville. She has served the institution for more than 12 years, and most recently she has served as Executive Associate to the President at UT Brownsville, where she gained extensive knowledge of scheduling, traveling, and presidential protocol. She is a graduate of UTB/TSC having earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

In the weeks to come, I expect to announce more hires. I also encourage you to check the job openings at UTRGV Careers.

Please join me in welcoming our newest members to the UTRGV family.

Guy Bailey

President
