Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that, following a thorough and collaborative process, Dr. Everardo Cobos has been appointed Dean of the UTRGV School of Medicine (SOM), effective Feb. 1, 2026.
Dr. Cobos has served as interim dean since May 1, 2025, a role he stepped into during a time of transition for the school. In that time, he has demonstrated steady leadership, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to our mission of transforming healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley.
As mentioned in his interim announcement, Dr. Cobos brings to this role a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in academic medicine, oncology, and institutional leadership.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cobos on this well-deserved appointment. We are confident that, with his leadership, we will continue to elevate medical education, research, and healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
