Brightspace Faculty Training Sessions


Empower your teaching with Brightspace! The Center for Online Learning & Teaching Technology offers hands-on training sessions for all UTRGV faculty. Learn how to leverage this new Learning Management System (LMS) to enhance your courses, regardless of your teaching modality (face-to-face, hybrid, or online).

The training sessions we offer are listed below. Please check the UTRGV Training Services Portal for specific dates, times, and modalities (in-person and online).

Description: This session provides faculty with an introduction to the fundamental tools and features of Brightspace, our new Learning Management System (LMS). Participants will be equipped with the skills needed to navigate the platform with confidence and start creating content.

Participants will learn how to identify and resolve common accessibility issues, interpret Ally indicators and scores, apply best practices for creating accessible documents and media, and improve the overall accessibility of their course content. By the end of the session, instructors will be equipped with practical strategies to design inclusive learning materials and enhance the student experience.

Description: Brightspace offers a robust suite of integrated content creation tools, including Creator+ and H5P, that enhance functionality and provide a more seamless experience for both instructors and students. By adopting H5P, you can create engaging, interactive, and accessible learning experiences directly within Brightspace—expanding what’s possible in your digital course environments.

Brightspace’s built-in tool H5P offers:

  • Wide Range of Activities: Create interactive videos, drag-and-drop exercises, quizzes, timelines, and more.
  • Open Source & Collaborative: Reuse, share, and adapt content across courses and institutions.
  • Accessibility & Responsiveness: Designed for accessibility compliance and optimized for desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.

This training session will also help you transition your Softchalk Course Content to H5P, as Softchalk Lesson Builder will no longer be supported starting in Summer 2026.

This workshop goes over the Apply the Quality Matters Rubric and how to apply it in reviewing the design of online and blended courses. This rubric introduces participants to best practices, instructional design, and research-based design principles of an online/hybrid course to ensure quality assurance. This workshop is required if you are planning to teach online.
