New Student Orientation FAQs
NursingCAS FAQ's
- Students will receive an invitation via their UTRGV email with time, date, and place information from the School of Nursing on behalf of the BSN Program Director.
- Orientation may be offered online.
- Casual attire. Instructions will be provided if scrubs or a SON polo should be worn. If not instructions received, please wear casual attire.

- If you have extenuating circumstances, contact the BSN Program Director and the BSN or ABSN Program Coordinator before the event.
Read the materials provided to you in advance and, if required, acknowledge them and follow the instructions on how to submit the signed acknowledgements.
Submit signed documents you were asked to read and sign (students will receive instructions via email).
Bring paper and a pen for note-taking.
Arrive on time. If held online, connect online 15 minutes before the orientation starts to ensure you can connect.
Students will receive instructions about how to connect to online orientation. Ensure you have set up a Zoom account and have Zoom installed on your computer.
Test your computer or laptop equipment (sound, video, and audio) at least two business days before the event to ensure everything works. We do not recommend attending on a cell phone. Contact the UTRGV Service Desk if you have any technology issues or questions.
Please visit the link provided at least 15 minutes before orientation to ensure you can connect to the meeting. Review UTRGV Information Technology’s tips and information regarding etiquette and Zoom tutorials, and information.
If orientation is online, ensure you are in a quiet area and are not interrupted (keep your microphone off unless you ask a question).
- Welcome and introductions. You will be given an agenda for the day at orientation.
- Discussion of topics to guide and assist you in starting and succeeding in your courses and clinicals.
- A variety of faculty and guest speakers will be attending.
Breaks:
- Breaks in the morning and afternoon will be provided.
- A lunch break will be provided (on your own).
