Why UTRGV?
When I graduated from high school I was looking for the best university that was closer to home, and for this reason, I decided that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was the best option for me. Besides having the university close to home, UTRGV also offers various opportunities that have helped me develop my communication skills and professional skills. The second reason I chose UTRGV is that they offer excellent business programs, especially in the accounting bachelor’s degree program.

What made you decide on your current major?
When I was in high school I was a member of an organization called Business Professionals for America (BPA). Being part of this organization helped me realize that I wanted a degree related to business. Since I have always liked math, the two options that interested me when I enrolled at the university were finance and accounting. After taking several accounting courses and seen all the opportunities UTRGV offers for the accounting students, I decided that the best career for me was in accounting.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like the most about UTRGV are the great opportunities they offer, such as the internships with global companies and the opportunities we have to work within the institution. I can personally say that working at UTRGV is one of the greatest experience a student can have. I also like UTRGV because of the amazing atmosphere and the excellent staff that always makes us feel welcomed.

What are some of your favorite study spots on campus?
My favorite study spot on campus is the library, especially the study rooms. I like the study rooms because, in my opinion, it is easier to concentrate in a place that is quiet and equipped with the necessary tools for the students.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means having the opportunity to build a career where the professors and students help each other to create better professionals for the future.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Since I was a sophomore, I have been part of the ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting) organization. Being part of this organization has allowed me to help my community through the different activities the organization hosted. One of the activities in which ALPFA is involved is in the VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance) program, in which students have the opportunity to help file income taxes for low-income families of the community.

What are a few of your favorite books?
Some of my favorite books are “In the Time of the Butterflies” by Julia Alvarez and “The Bravest You” by Adam Kirk Smith. I enjoy reading these books because they encourage and motivate the readers to find their passion and to keep fighting for their goals in life.
