UTRGV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) commits:
- to increase the cohort students' pass rates on STAAR-EOC state exams.
- to increase the number of student enrolled in rigorous Math classes.
- to increase the number of students enrolled in college.
- to increase the number of cohort students placed in college-level Math without the need for remediation.
- to educate parents on how to build a college-going culture at home.
Initiatives
Texas Instruments
Texas Instruments will provide job-embedded professional development and follow-up coaching to cohort teachers that will focus on effective pedagogy and integrating interactive technology tools and software in the classroom. The content coach will provide additional TI mentoring support to teachers and students throughout the academic year to facilitate the adoption of technology and implementation of TI Navigator software in the classroom. Additionally, students will be equipped with TI-Nspire CX graphing calculators for the classroom to foster exposure and experience with STEM career tools.
