Services

With the help of community partners and target schools, UTRGV (GEAR UP) Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs is able to provide educational support services for students, teachers, and families across the Rio Grande Valley.

Impact

Students

UTRGV (GEAR UP) Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs will began with a 7th grade cohort during the 2024-2025 school year and will support those students until one year post-secondary. During their time, students have access to tutoring, mentoring, leadership, counseling, and academic interventions that will equalize access to post high school education.

Teachers

Cohort educators are eligible for professional support aimed at increasing pedagogy effectiveness. High-quality professional development, classroom consumables, and a professional network of coaches and University resources are offered to English, Math, & Science classroom teachers at no cost to the district.

Families

Families benefit from workshops and events that inform and demonstrate best practices for establishing a college and career going culture at home. Topics include social and emotional learning as well as academic support systems and habits.
