Mission

The UTRGV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) program is based on introducing researched-based programs and practices that will help students become successful in middle and high school—and ultimately prepare them for transition to postsecondary education. Through the partnership involving university, college, school, and community partners, students will be supported as they engage in rigorous academic curriculum in preparation for postsecondary education and leadership development.

Program Highlights

  • A partnership with College 1st STEM Camps has produced high-energy, hands-on STEM activities and lessons for cohort students.
  • PASOS Parent Workshops have been tailor-made to match the needs of the program’s cohort parents.
  • Texas Instruments teacher trainings and equipment help bring interactive rigor into the program’s campus classrooms.
  • The UTRGV STEM Center provides opportunities for cohort students to participate in labs that reinforce TEKS objectives through visits to the university center and mobile bus.
