The student experience is at the heart of everything we do.  At UTRGV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) students enjoy college tours, site-based camps, and educational field trips that enhance GEAR UP support services already occurring in the classroom. 

Experiences

UTRGV GEAR UP Day Festiba 2025

Over 300 middle school students attended the UTRGV Festiba arts festival on February 26th, GEAR UP Day. The event highlighted the talents of local authors and UTRGV Performing Arts students as they showcased a wider range of career possibilites under the Fine Arts degree.

College Tours

During the 2024-25 school year, approximately 650 students participated in college tours that included an interactive educational experience within the UTRGV STEM center. 

Site-based Camps

Over 1,000 students participated in STEM awareness camps at their home campus during their 7th grade year. and we're on track to serve about the same this year.  Camp features include the following:

  • Drone manipulation
  • Color block programming
  • Principles of engineering
  • Study habits
Residential Camp

The UTRGV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Student Leadership Council participated in a 3-day residential camp facilitated by SEEDS training Inc.  Click below to learn more.
